The traditional meaning, beeswax, refers to a substance secreted by bees and used by them in constructing their honeycombs. The term has come to refer more generally to a class of substances with properties similar to beeswax, enumerated below:
Waxes may be natural secretions of plants or animals, artificially produced by purification from natural petroleum or completely synthetic. In addition to beeswax, carnauba (a plant epicuticular wax) and paraffin (a petroleum wax) are commonly encountered waxes which occur naturally. Earwax is an oily substance found in the human ear. Q. I spilled some wax from a burning candle on my indoor/outdoor carpet. The wax dried and left a cloudy white reisdue. I've tried to scrape it off, but it's not working very well. Any suggestions? Asked by missevav - Fri Aug 31 23:11:23 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. 1.Put ice cubes in a plastic bag and cover the wax until it hardens. 2.Gently scrape the excess using a spatula or a spoon. 3.Set your iron on low heat (you can also use a hairdryer). Place a brown paper bag without any writing or designs (the ink may transfer to the carpet) over the stain. Press the iron on the bag for no longer than a couple of seconds. Keep iron heat low so carpet fibers don't get scorched. 4.Repeat and replace the bag as necessary until the wax no longer transfers to the paper when heated. these next steps are for colored wax only: It should be noted that if the wax is colored, it may stain your carpet.
