How can I stretch my ears without a spike?
Q. I don't have anything designed for stretching ears, so I'm talking about anything laying about the house that could be used? And also if there is, do you advise numbing with ice? Or maybe drinking before I do it? I already have one ear at a 1ga, and I wanted to even it up Thanks in advance!

What are the chances of my ears becoming infected if I get both of my ears pierced?
Q. Would it be better to get them pierced in a tattoo shop or a place like claire's accessories (girl's accessory shop)? If my ears did become infected, how long would it take for them to heal? I was thinking of getting them pierced on the earlobe.

How do you get your ears to pop?
Q. My ears have not popped for 2 weeks. Any home remedies? I've tried ear drops (prescription and non prescription), moving my jaw around, plugging my nose, etc. My doctor told me that I have a slight case of swimmer's ear, but they have not popped. Any suggestions?
Asked by afyoraangel - Tue Aug 10 14:38:01 2010 - Other - Health - 3 Answers - Comments

A. A good yawn always worked for me. However , if that doesn't work then maybe they only feel like they need to pop. There may be fluid behind the eardrum that is giving you that feeling.

You know how people have stretched ears to a certain size where they start to flop out?
Q. Like when you look at the person front-on, their ears flop out and look like elephant ears. I really want to stretch my ears to 3/4ths. But I am afraid they are going to flop out like that. Could the reason they do that be because the type of plug they have in doesn't weight a lot? And if they were to put a marble or heavier plug in, it wouldn't flop out because it would be weighing their ear downwards more? Idk, does anyone know?
Asked by - Mon Dec 6 17:26:02 2010 - Other - Skin & Body - 2 Answers - Comments

A. I think it depends on the structure of the ear. My ears are stretched to 1 3/4 inches (44mm) and they still don't "flop out". It's unlikely that 3/4 inch ears would flop out.

How do I keep the water out of my daughters ears during bathtime?
Q. Ok, so my daughter had tubes put in her ears in March. She is 2 1/2. The first couple of times she had a bath I told her to be careful not to get the water in her ears. Now she freaks out at one little drop of water getting in her ears. Bathtime is a fight when it comes to washing her hair. I haven't found an easy way to rinse where she doesn't scream like it's hurting here. I've even tried to rinse with just a wash rag and she has a cow with that. When I was a kid I had this shower ring that went on my head and it probably stuck out about an inch or two all the way around my head and not just my forehead. This helped the water stay out of not only my eyes, but my ears also. I can't seem to find these any more at all. All I can find is… [cont.]

A. This may sound out there I know. My son hates getting water in his ears also. So i have him tip his head back and cover both ears with yoplet yogurt containers. I tell him to hold them tight so he can hear the ocean and then I quickly use a wash cloth to rinse with. The containers openings are small so it fits right around the ears and when he holds it tight to the ear no water gets in. Also he feels like he is helping out with the bath. You know as well as I do that they love to help out at this age. Good luck

A. generally 0-00 is the last size you can stretch to before you hit the point of no return, but it varies from person to person

How should I clean my ears after starting to stretch my ears?
Q. I have had my ears pierced since I was 2 but I just recently started to stretch my ears and wear plugs. I went straight to a 10 because my ears were stretched out a little already. I didn't have any bleeding when putting them in like people usually do, but now that I've had them for less than a week I am having a bit of trouble finding ways to clean the tapers and my ears. I've been using hydrogen peroxide and it's been working pretty good. any tips?

what happens when a dobermans ears get infected?
Q. I have a five month old Doberman. We cropped his ears and last week I think I taped them to tight so they got infected. He is taking antibiotics now. They look like some chunks of the ears are missing. Like when you tear a paper. My real question is after they heal from the infection get they still be taped or something to make them stand up? Has anyone been through the same experience as me before? What happened if any? Do the ears ever get fixed?

I am sorry to hear you're having trouble with your dog's ears. What you may be thinking of chunks of the ears are missing may be scabs.I am going to post a site on ear cropping & retapeing & I hope it helps you & your dog.Since you just had the crop done a week ago & caught the infection early, they should heal just fine. Is it normal for recently pierced ears to hurt a little bit after cleaning?
Q. On Friday I got my ears pierced for the first time at Claires. After I clean my ears, they hurt a little for about 10-20 minutes after, but after that they settle down and I don't feel any pain. Also, sometimes they itch (but I never itch them) Is this normal? Or should I be concerned? btw, it was a normal ear piercing.
Asked by - Mon Feb 15 09:57:55 2010 - Other - Skin & Body - 5 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Very normal. You have a unhealed area. You will burn and hurt until it heals. The itching shows it is healing. What happens is it will heal arround the earring and you will have a permanent hole. Make sure to keep them cleaned and turn the earrings several times a day so as they heal they won't grown arround the earring. Usually after 6 weeks you can start changing earrings..Don't until then and at first always use hyperallogetic earrings or gold or silver until your able to wear the cheaper brands. You will have to see after 6 weeks. Some people can wear any brands, even the cheapest...I am like that but my daughters can only wear 14 carrot gold and sterling silver posts and wires.

A. Hormones and sebaceous glands overproducing those special oils. And those zits hurt like heck, too, don't they? and last way too long.

What are the scientific or evolutionary implications of having asymmetric ears?
Q. One of my ears looks more elfin. The folded ridge along the upper part of the ear is stuck flat on my left side, while the upper ridge on the top of my right ear is open, enabling me to run my finger inside its fold. The left ear is my more 'elfin' one, with the right ear being more common with its open ridge. What are some possible explanations for this difference in ear shape? What are its implications? Any information would be helpful (even if this does seem like strange question). Thanks!
Asked by - Thu Dec 2 20:04:06 2010 - Biology - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Without a photo, it sounds as if you are describing "elfin ear," which is a minor defect. it is simply an error in development, with no implications...

What is useful to unclog your ears after a flight?
Q. I've just come off a plane now from Paris and my ears feel clogged to hell, both of them. Upon take off I felt huge pressure on my ears and they felt clogged. As we leveled out there was a huge popping sound and the pressure and the clogginess disappeared. Excellent. Upon decent the exact same thing happened again however there was no popping in my ears. I've been home for roughly an hour and I've taken two Sudafed tablets to see if that will help. All sounds seem dampened as well. Any advice?
Asked by - Wed Oct 5 19:07:47 2011 - Air Travel - 3 Answers - Comments

A. You have less pressure inside your ears than is outside, so the eardrum is stretched tightly and not performing as well as usual. Use the Valsalva maneuver to equalize the pressure in your inner ear with the outside air pressure. See for details. If it is only flight related pressure differential, the difference is minor and you should be able to immediately clear. The bigger the pressure difference though, the harder it can be to equalize.

what are the best way to protect the ears from headphones?
Q. I have these ear bud sort of things and I know that it can create a lot of damage to the ear if you listen too much, or if you have the volume very loud. So what can I do to protect my ears from further, or no more damage?
Asked by deepblueorchid - Thu Nov 29 02:06:36 2007 - Other - Electronics - 2 Answers - Comments

A. you cannot get anything for this I would reccomend not listening to music loudly and instead of wearing the 'ear bud' ones get the big headphones (meaning the style that they use in recording studios; they are a bit more expensive though)

A. My mum has been using fragrance free baby wipes for 20years, and I've been using them for a few years, they are the best, I swear by the things. It makes ear cleaning feel safer as there are no sharp pointy things, you can feel where you're going, you can feel if something is in there (seeds or something) and the dogs thoroughly enjoy it. Cheap too, to buy in bulk also good for removing make up :)

What's the best way to clean ears that overproduce ear wax?
Q. The candle thing doesn't work so don't tell me to do that. I also clean my ears with q-tips but doctors say it can make things worse b/c it jams it further down so I try not to go in deep. In the past 2 years I've had to get my ears flushed twice at the doctor's office b/c I could hardly hear.

A. Hydrogen peroxide, it's what the hospital uses. Lay on one side and pour one cap full into your ear (make sure you have a towel around your ear), after it sizzles for about 15 mins. take a shower and run plenty of water through your ear so it dose'nt dry out. repeat for both sides of head.

How can i speed up the healing process when stretching my ears?
Q. One of my ears is taking slightly longer than my other ear to heal, what can i do to speed up the healing, what should be the best thing to use and how often should i use it. My other ear is fine, but my other ear is still slightly sore and red. Do u think salt water is okay, just soak my ears in that everyday?
Asked by KellyMarie - Mon Mar 14 11:21:32 2011 - Other - Skin & Body - 4 Answers - Comments

A. Do not use alcohol or peroxide. It will dry your skin out, and slow healing. Vitamin E oil and sea salt soaks are very good for healing tissue. Do not stretch too fast though..some very scary things can happen to your ear lobes :/ The tape method is very good, but make sure you heal in between layers. It is definitely worth taking your time!!

Just got my ears pierced and now one of my ears is swollen and hurts, what should I do?
Q. I got my ears double pierced about 4 days ago. The left ear is perfectly fine, but my right ear is swollen and rather painful. I don't want to go to the doctor, so are there any home remedies that you would recommend? Has anyone used salt water?
Asked by charlie_* - Tue Mar 24 18:24:03 2009 - Injuries - 3 Answers - Comments

A. Don't use salt water, that could just make it worse. just use the rubbing alcohol that they give you when you get them pierced. If you don't want to go to the doctor, then atleast call them, that way you would know if you have anything serious. you don't want that. so just call your doctor and see if they have any suggestions on what you should do.
