Middle English redy, rædig, from Old English ræde, geræde, from Proto-Germanic *garaidijaz ("arranged") + -y. Cognate with Danish rede, Dutch gereed, German gerade and bereit, Old Norse greiðr and Gothic 𐌲𐌰𐍂𐌰𐌹𐌸𐍃 (garaiþs).
