how to start off letter to family whom i haven't spoken to in 8 years?
Q. okay. i am attempting to get into contact with my aunt and uncle who i haven't spoken to in 11 years and my grandparents whom i haven't spoken to in 8. they are the only family aside from my mother and father who i speak to. they are the only family i have left. they chose not to contact us anymore due to the marriage of my mother and father. it's a long family dispute. i got their addresses and am planning on writing them a letter. i don't know how to start it off? any help?

A. Honestly, I think continuing with Yahoo Answers is a great way to learn written English. Your English is better than most on this site. Speaking a different language is a different story. You need to hear it, as well as speak it, and get feed back. It also leaves you if you don't use it for a while. I spent several years in Japan about 10 years ago and could, at least get by, speaking limited Japanese. About the only thing I could do now is thank someone and order a beer! Hey, a guy has to have his priorities.

A. Depending of the zone. In California, Texas, Arizona, (all the South West) Mexican Spanish is the most popular. In Florida, for obvious reasons, Caribbean Spanish is dominant: Cubans, Venezuelans, Dominicans, Puertoricans. But you can hear also Argentinian Spanish, and other South American dialects. In New York, Puertoricans Spanish was dominant before, but not now. Actually, there is a mix of Caribbean, specially Dominican, with Mexican, and South American (specially Colombian and Ecuadorean). Have in mind that any Spanish community, keeps its own dialect. But in order to facilitate communication, they adopt words from other Spanish communities.
