does candle wax burn as a solid, liquid, or a vapor?
Q.
Asked by cdha3 - Thu Sep 13 12:49:30 2007 - Chemistry - 2 Answers - Comments

A. A candle demonstrates the four states of matter. The four states of matter are Solid, Liquid, Gas, and Plasma. Wax, the fuel source of a candle goes through all four of these states of matter. When we light a candle. We need a catalyst to start the whole thing going, so we touch a flame to the end of the wick. At first the wick itself starts to burn. The flame creeps down the sides of the wick and usually diminishes until it touches the wax. This is when the mechanism starts to work. The heat from the flame melts the wax surrounding the base of the wick directly beneath it. By the principle of capillary action the melted wax is drawn into the wick providing fuel for the flame which bursts to life. The candle continues to burn through an… [cont.]

Why is water a liquid at room temperature while wax is a solid?
Q. Water has hydrogen bonding which is significantly stronger than the London dispersion forces in wax, so why is wax a solid while water is liquid? Is it because the chain of wax molecule is long, so the London dispersion forces is increased many-folds, and becomes stronger than the hydrogen bonding?
Asked by EagleBoy - Thu Apr 1 10:34:10 2010 - Chemistry - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Yes, pretty much. The long wax molecule can experience the dispersion force over its entire length. Also, the long wax molecules can intertwine and twist together, which also forms some strengthening bond between them. That's the reason that wax is still pliable. Water molecules are small and don't experience such a large area bond, but they are also packed together more tightly in ice, explaining why ice is so hard and not pliable.

Whats the difference between a paste car wax and liquid car wax?
Q. 1. Whats the difference between a paste car wax, and a liquid car wax( which come in a spray bottle). 2. Which one is better.
Asked by heheman1400 - Mon May 11 04:01:40 2009 - Maintenance & Repairs - 2 Answers - Comments

A. 1. theres 3 different types of waxes, paste, liquid, and spray wax paste, is generally harder to apply/remove, liquid is easier to apply/remove. spray wax is only used for touch ups, so after you wash your car, you use the spray wax, to keep it looking like the 'just waxed' look, its not a substitute for regular waxing 2. between paste and liquid, ive only used liquid, but thers no difference between them, just easier/harder, so liquid and both waxes need to be applied in shade pretty much everything you do to your car, its best to do in shade

What is the tax treatment for liquid corporate assets upon the end/retirement of a business?
Q. The business is a CCPC (Canadian-Controlled Private Corporation) and the owner will be ending the business due to retirement. There are some liquid corporate assets that exist within the corporation. Is the only option to cash out all the assets at once and take a huge tax hit, or may the owner keep the corporation running and take out liquid assets each year to cover living expenses (thus not taking as much of a tax hit)? Any links to information would be much appreciated.

How does a Materials Science and Engineering Ph D get into business world?
Q. Hi, I am a Materials Science and Engineering Ph D student in a prestigious university in US. But I really want to get into business world after Ph.D. I am kinda confused what to do? Can anyone give some suggestions, like what is the baby step to really get started this dream? What is the advantage of materials science and engineering major student to do that? What is the disadvantages? For an engineering background student, what is especially important and challenging for him to interview with a business examiner? Thanks, guys.

A. There are a lot of industries that can use smart people, but most of them would not let you use your Ph D. An MBA might help, but you might want to talk to some adventure capitalists active in your field. (Check who has invested in some of the companies active in your industry). They would be looking for the combination of industry knowledge and business sense.

Can we use 3m liquid wax once in a couple of months?
Q. I have recently bought 3m liquid wax bottle (The black one available in the indian market, MRP Rs 80) and am satisfied with the results. I have read the complete description on the bottle, however I am still not sure if it contains any abrasives. Could someone suggest how often can I use it? I don't want to use a wax which has mild abrasives because my car is just 3 months old. Thanks in advance.

A. when you start your business and you have previously purchased items that become inventory, you will show that on your balance sheet as inventory and that will be offset by your "Contribution" if you don't have an inventory and you have the receipts for the purchase, of course you can prove you bought and it was used in the business not sure what you mean by a licence, in some cases the issuance of a license has nothing to do with what you can and cannot claim if this is a professional license that you were unable to perform the jobs prior to getting the license this might affect your income claim
