Q. at home wax kits do they work??? if so what brand

A. There are three kinds of wax kits that I've come across. One requires the use of the microwave and if the wax is too hot it can burn the skin. The other wax kit consists of strips on some kind of backing that you place on your skin and the heat from your body and hands as you rub it in place makes the was pliable enough for you to remove the backing. The third is sugar wax and you need muslin or linen strips to remove the hair. I found the last method the messiest. They both adhere to the hairs on your body and once the wax has a chance to cool you are to hold an area on your skin down and rip/pull the wax in the opposite direction of hair growth pulling out the hair by the roots. Either way it can be painful the first few times and the… [cont.]

How much wax does it take to hot wax a snowboard?
Q. I've never waxed my snowboard, and i'm looking at wax, and they sell in different amounts (5 oz, 3/4 lbs, ect). Lets say I bought a 3/4 lb brick. How many waxes would that get me? How much does it take each wax? Thanks ahead of time!
Asked by Cole S - Tue Dec 11 02:13:54 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It doesn't take alot to wax your board. Probably an ounce or two. I gather up what I scrape off and reuse it the next time I wax my board so it goes a long ways. 3/4 of a lb would probably do about 10 waxes, depending on how thick you put it on. 5 oz would do 3-5 times.

How can remove wax from my white wall?
Q. I had this candle wax that i figured I'd use in the bathroom for incense. I placed it on the top of the toilet and it leaned back a little. Not realizing when the wax melted it drizzled all the way down the back of the toilet, sliding down the wall on to the floor. I know you can scrape up dried wax but how do I get it off my white wall without damaging the wall and paint. This is a brand new house and I don't wanna have to have them repaint it 4 sum wax.
Asked by KARMA R - Wed Jul 5 08:26:36 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Try using an old piece of cloth (sheet etc.) or a heavy duty paper towel ( careful not to burn) have someone hold it against the wall covering the area while you hold a hot iron on it...( do not rub) lift it off reapply with a clean cloth and repeat.

What ingredients are in wax that may cause an allergic reaction?
Q. I seem to be severely allergic to wax. The first time I waxed the beutician used a pink wax and then I went to Uni K Wax and they used a green wax for "sensitive skin." Both times the area that I waxed got really red, itchy, bumpy, terribly swollen, and the rash even started spreading. If anyone knows what ingredients are in these waxes that may cause allergies please let me know. Also, is there any other wax I can use that will not cause these allergies? Thank you :)
Asked by Karla L - Sat May 23 09:32:18 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The best person to ask are these places that used this wax on you. It is altogether possible that they both have the same ingredients in the wax. Wax itself is not, nor can be an allergen.

Candle wax left stain on carpet, ideas to get it out?
Q. At a party we recently hosted a guest accidently tipped a red candle over. The wax made a puddle about two-three inches in diameter on my beige carpet. I was able to remove all the wax but the stain remains. We try to use organic cleaners or home remedies due to my husbands inability to stand strong chemical smells. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Asked by Jamie S - Sun Apr 27 13:27:27 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Any cleaner that is water based will not help since the stain is oil based. You can try covering the area with baking soda, placing a weighted object over it, then see if it pulls out any of the color, but I don't think it will get rid the stain completely. I suggest you hire a professional carpet cleaner.

How do you wax flowers that have already dried?
Q. I have flowers from an event that have been air drying for over a year (sort of forgot about them). Since they've become fragile, I'm concerned over typical methods used to wax fresh flowers because I'm afraid the wax will be too thick and will cause my flowers to break. Is there anything that can be done to thin the wax down or is there another approach that could be used to preserve them?

A. you need to try to re moisten them. Depends on what kind of flowers they are. Most flowers will moisten up enough to allow you to put wax on them without the wax looking ro thick

How can I clean old wax out of a candle holder?
Q. I once learned of a trick (that many may know) to put the holder in the freezer, and the remaining pool of wax would pop right out. It works wonders! However, after doing that several times, the wax buildup around the other parts of the holder tends to build up and doesn't quite freeze since there isn't much of it. It is waxy and messy; when I try to clean it it just spreads it around. What is the easiest way to clean up the remaining wax? I have tried soap and water with a sponge, with not much luck. It removes some of it, but there must be another trick? Any ideas?

A. I work for Yankee Candle and often suggest the following method(s):At home I will either run hot or near boiling water until the leftover wax disappears,or use an old pot that contains heated water to soak off excess wax.Dont use said pot for food use!

How come when you heat wax and stick it in water it explodes?
Q. How come when you heat wax and stick it in water it explodes? This is a science lab i did in class and my teacher is giving out extra credit if i can figure out why the wax combusted. I already know that vaporised water forces the liquid wax into the air, but why does it go on fire. Thanks. I am wondering why when the wax is put into the water fire shoots out. Their is then a huge wax explosion.
Asked by drocker55 - Wed Dec 5 16:40:35 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The wax doesn't actually explode, which is an exothermic reaction, but when the cool water contacts the hot wax, it causes a rapid contraction of the wax which causes it to rapidly come apart. Since much of the wax is still brittle yet still hot, it's unable to relieve the stress of rapid cooling so it breaks down. Many brittle materials, like glass, for example, do the same thing when heated and rapidly cooled.

What is the characteristics of wax and how does it relate to water?
Q. I have a part of a large wax molecule (cant actually show it on here, its on my homework) but the questions states,"This is a part of a large wax molecule. How does this structure help explain the characteristics of wax as it relates to water?" please help!!!... thanks! :)

A. Wax is mostly made of carbon and hydrogen - C-H bond is nonpolar, the difference in electronegativity is negligible - Like dissolves like (nonpolar dissolves nonpolar) - intermolecular interaction between two wax molecules is vanderwaals interaction, which is much weaker than hydrogen bonding present in water Water is a polar molecule - it has polar covalent bonds - water molecules interact by hydrogen bonding - water dissolves polar or ionic compounds (polar dissolves polar) - intermolecular interaction is hydrogen bonding - The difference in the strength of intermolecular interactions between wax and water explains the difference in boiling and melting point of the two.

What kind of wax can be used on shower door glass to prevent etching from hard water?
Q. I have heard that wax will prevent hard water from etching glass but don't know what type of wax to use. I am replacing glass door as old one is etched and spots cannot be removed. I don't want this to happen again.

A. I would use the spray wax/detailers meant for use on cars. They clean the surface but are safe for the clear coat on car finishes, so they'll be safe for your glass. They also protect against dirt and pollutants in the air, so they should do a pretty good job protecting from hard water stains if used regularly. They're easy to use, fairly inexpensive, and do a great job. We use them on our vinyl and laminate floors as well as the porcelain in our tub and sink, and they work great. We don't have glass shower doors, so I can't speak to those specifically, but I would think it would work pretty well. Meguiars makes a nice spray detailer wax you can pick up at an autoparts store or somewhere like Wal-Mart or Target. Good luck!

Candle wax how and what can I do get old wax out of my glass candle holders?

A. Set the whole thing in the freezer for a few minutes, maybe 15 or so. Then the wax will harden and you can usually chip it right out in one piece with your finger nail. I would never heat candle wax to remove. Always use ice, or the freezer. Best of luck.

How often should you wax your legs after the first session?
Q. I'm a guy so my leg hair grows quicker than women obviously.. I just had my legs waxed about nearly 3 weeks ago. I can see and feel the hair growing back already. When should I wax my legs again?
Asked by Bull - Thu Aug 13 13:58:57 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I think it'd be okay to do it again. With shaving, waxing, and burning (Nair..) you should wait at least a week because they all take layers of skin off along with the hair. Just because you can see it and feel it doesn't always mean it's a good time to get rig of the hair again. You can really screw up your skin doing it all, but if you do it right, you'll be fine. =]] Good luck.

Q. I'm a guy so my leg hair grows quicker than women obviously.. I just had my legs waxed about nearly 3 weeks ago. I can see and feel the hair growing back already. When should I wax my legs again?

A. I think it'd be okay to do it again. With shaving, waxing, and burning (Nair..) you should wait at least a week because they all take layers of skin off along with the hair. A. i got candle wax off my sons trousers by ironing it with a piece of kitchen roll on top, the paper absorbs the wax as it melts. I have also used it on a carpet.
