wax???
Q. at home wax kits do they work??? if so what brand
Asked by sparkle xo - Sat Dec 1 14:25:23 2007 - Hair - 3 Answers - Comments

A. There are three kinds of wax kits that I've come across. One requires the use of the microwave and if the wax is too hot it can burn the skin. The other wax kit consists of strips on some kind of backing that you place on your skin and the heat from your body and hands as you rub it in place makes the was pliable enough for you to remove the backing. The third is sugar wax and you need muslin or linen strips to remove the hair. I found the last method the messiest. They both adhere to the hairs on your body and once the wax has a chance to cool you are to hold an area on your skin down and rip/pull the wax in the opposite direction of hair growth pulling out the hair by the roots. Either way it can be painful the first few times and the… [cont.]

Can wax myrtle tree stalks be safely sterilized?
Q. I've got about 150 wax myrtles and Desperately need to sterilize the stalks to prevent growth. They are pruned to about 5' and its challenging enough to control the runners. But if there was a safe stalk sterilizer then it'd probably sterilize the runners too.

How to get wax off a no-wax wood floor?
Q. My dear hubby tried to be "helpful" and purchased the wrong type of floor cleaner containing liquid wax (for parquet floors) and proceeded to clean my 8-month old pre-finished hard wood floors. The following morning I noticed dull scummy streaks all over my formerly beautiful hard wood floors. I can use my fingernail to scrape off the waxy scum, but I don't have 3 years to devote to cleaning all the wax off this way! I had an estimate for $750 to buff my floors...I thought this was crazy. I bought an electric car waxer (which also removes wax), this did not work either. I am afraid to try chemicals/abrasive materials as I don't want to ruin the finish. I've searched the net and some say ammonia, mineral spirits, steel wool and… [cont.]

A. That's a tuff one. Can you call/write to the manufacturer, or the people who installed it? Wild idea: get a wide Spackle trowel ( like the kind they use for taping or plastering gyproc)and a hair dryer. warm the wax and Gently to scrape off the wax. Over time the wax will wear off. Good luck

How can I clean old wax out of a candle holder?
Q. I once learned of a trick (that many may know) to put the holder in the freezer, and the remaining pool of wax would pop right out. It works wonders! However, after doing that several times, the wax buildup around the other parts of the holder tends to build up and doesn't quite freeze since there isn't much of it. It is waxy and messy; when I try to clean it it just spreads it around. What is the easiest way to clean up the remaining wax? I have tried soap and water with a sponge, with not much luck. It removes some of it, but there must be another trick? Any ideas?

A. I work for Yankee Candle and often suggest the following method(s):At home I will either run hot or near boiling water until the leftover wax disappears,or use an old pot that contains heated water to soak off excess wax.Dont use said pot for food use!

What's the most efficient way to remove the corn wax from apples?
Q. So I've been reading that apples are coated with some sort of corn derivative, in order to keep them shiny looking at the grocery. My most recent batch of apples tasted horrible, so I decided maybe it was the corn wax. Before, I've tried soap and warm water, but it didn't remove the film at all. So far, the only successful way I've found is to drag a sharp knife along the apple, as if I was shaving it. This removes the waxy film, but isn't very efficient. Anyone know a better way?
Asked by DvsJ - Mon Apr 25 20:27:07 2011 - Other - Food & Drink - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Yep, here's a few ways: The easiest way is to peel off the apples' skins. You may use a potato peeler or a small knife. Although there are other ways to remove the wax from the skins, some claim that the skins have unusual tastes and textures. Hence they prefer the skin to be removed. One of the popular ways is to use the apple cider vinegar. You can pour a small amount in a container and wipe the apple with the vinegar using a paper towel or clean cloth. Wash the apples after wiping and they are safe to be eaten. You can replace the apple cider vinegar with normal white vinegar and apply the similar wiping method. If you wish to use water, you can dip the apples in lukewarm water and gently rub the skins if necessary. Another way is to… [cont.]
