Are we under the laws of Moses according to the new test?
Q. s 10: 4Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. Eph 2: 15by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, 16and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. Hebrews 8:13, "In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away."KJV 3By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear." What was the purpose of the law? To show us what sin was-Romans 3: 20Therefore no one will be… [cont.]

A. No, as you've shown from the Bible, we are not under the law of Moses. For those who say we are under the law of Moses, as part of their worship they should still be sacrificing animals, stoning people, etc... If they are not, they are breaking the law they say they are under.

The Sabbath?
Q. Why is it still necessary for Christians to keep the Sabbath when Hebrews 8:13 teach us that the old law is done away with? Heb 8:13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

A. 1. The Sabbath is a day to cease our creating, working with the creation, and appreciate what God has done in the world and is doing in us. Genesis 2 2. Elaborate food preparation is to be done on the day before the Sabbath so that there is no baking or heavy cooking on the Sabbath. Exodus 16 3. The Sabbath is a time to lay our burdens down and rest. We should not do any servile work on the Sabbath. This includes our entire family, even our servants and beasts of burden and strangers who live among us. Jeremiah 17; Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5 4. The Sabbath is an holy convocation. We should meet and worship with others. Leviticus 23 5. We should be reverent and show God that we love, honor, and respect His authority. Psalm 89:7,… [cont.]

Excerpt from book: bible readings. rn. SUBJECT?The law and the gospel. Foundation Texts: ? For if that first covenan t had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, He saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: and they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying. Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For 7 will be merciful to their unrighteousness , and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that He saith, A new covenant. He hath made the first old. Now that which decay- eth and waxeth old is ready to vanish aicay.? Heb. 8:7-13. The;'old covenant, which is here declared to have been put away in order to make room for a new covenant, is the covenant of an outward law, which in the very nature of things waxes old and vanishes away before the coming of the new covenant of an inward life. That is, as long as. a man is a thief at heart, he needs an outward law to keep him from stealing; but as soon as he becomes honest at heart, he no longer needs the outward law. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long- suffering, gentleness, goodnes...

III.?Church reform. THE most careless observer of the events from time to time taking place on every side cannot fail to perceive that society at large is heaving with excitement, and on the eve of tremendous changes. We are indeed cast upon eventful times; and on every side strange phenomena present themselves. Even in Old England the most hoary and long-respected usages, beliefs, opinions, and institutions are rocking to their foundations, and ready to fall. Old age may be sere and yellow as well as green. And, when the former is the case, that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away; because of the weakness and unprofitablenes s thereof. That, indeed, is the fate of many things on earth which have been petted and cherished during the ages which are past. So it is with much in science, theology, politics, and philosophy. Some of the most important changes now determined, or soon to take place, have reference to the ecclesiastical life of christendom. If we look abroad, great, but also very hopeful, changes are taking place. Twenty years ago none but the most far-seeing, on the one hand, or the most boldly prophetic on the other, could have ventured to predict what has recently occurred, or is on the eve of occurring. Advance and retrogression both take place. The morning cometh, also the night. It is night with the Pope and his infatuated Church. The Roman Council, in its midnight gro- pings, has added rebellion to its crimes, has clapped its hands against God, has exalted itself above all that is called God, and worshipped, has put its head and representative in the place of God, has finished its last daring, blasphemous insult to human reason, by accepting and proclaiming the dogma of Papal infallibility. By binding this greatest of all erratic...
