Does your child's ears get waxy? How do you clean them? I'm afraid he's gonna get an infection?
Q. My 5 months boy's ears get really waxy. Not only inside but all around them. I'm afraid to clean them, specially the inside. I clean what I can on the outer part, but I dont know what to do with the inside.
Asked by College Girl! - Wed Nov 18 16:51:55 2009 - Newborn & Baby - 6 Answers - Comments
A. Keep cleaning the outside and don't worry about the inside. It's natural wax build-up even if it seems excessive to you. Watch for the color - anything other than the typical yellow should be a doctor call, since it could be an ear infection. Your pediatrician can help you clean it better at your next appointment but there is no need to clean the inside on a daily basis since you may hurt the ear more than help.

How do you remove a 'waxy' smell from bed sheets.?
Q. Certain bed sheets end up smelling 'waxy' or have a funny odor -- even when they are freshly washed -- even when using liquid fabric softener. Is there a way to remove the odor? I typically wash my light colored sheets in hot water and the darks in cold or warm using liquid All free and clear and then use Snuggle in the rinse cycle. Not all bed sheets end up with the odor -- just certain sets.

A. it must be the fabric they are made of, use dryer sheets too and febreeze in the linen closet , you can also put dryer sheets in between sheets in the stack in the linen closet. check the contents and company and dont buy that brand again if you can avoid it.

How can I remove waxy polish on 1950's era table?
Q. I bought a solid wood table that seems to be quite old. It's stained and covered with a waxy substance that's a little sticky. What's the best way to remove the waxy buildup? Afterwards, should I stain it or just use furniture polish, or oil?

A. I have would START with Murphy's Oil Soap... that will remove dirt, grime, and miscellaneous CRUD. IF it's still "dirty" I'd clean with a solvent such as Mineral Spirits which would strip any wax. I have a number of old pieces in walnut, pine, mahogany... I prefer a stain, and then paste wax like "SC Johnsons". It buffs to a very nice, hard, satin finish. I ONLY use oil on TEAK.

what could cause a waxy type substance seeping out of my face, scalp, nose, corners of my eyes, etc. ?
Q. I detoxed off morphine & vicodin Sept. 5th of this past year which I had been on for over 8 yrs. I've had a waxy kind of substance coming out on my face, scalp, in my ears, my nose & the corners of my eyes shortly thereafter. Could it be the result of the toxins left behind from the opiates or some other unrelated condition?

Can I use a waxy potato for mashing?
Q. I bought a bag of potatoes on a budget - they were cheap and it doesn't even say what kind of potatoes they are, just says 'Potatoes' on the bag. However they feel very waxy and are very difficult to peel. Does this mean they are going to be crap to use as mashed potatoes? I want to make a shepherds pie but I won't bother if this type of potato is going to ruin the dish. They are within their expiry date, I only bought them yesterday.

A. They will still mash ok, just not as good, but it will still work. Waxy potatoes go best for salads etc. The one's with dirt still on them are best for baking and mashing, have fun

Where to buy waxy coating on back of ID Cards?
Q. My Michigan ID has a very thin waxy coating on the back of it. It allows you to write on it and fill in information. Where can I buy something like this that could be stuck onto the back of a plastic card? Must be similar to the waxy material that I am talking about... Again, I need the waxy tape or coating specifically. All I got was a link to a standard Amazon page, not a specific product. Still looking for an answer... Thanks

Q. I recently started using a new shampoo and conditioner, Long Term Relationship by Herbal Essence and my hair has started to feel waxy and look greasy even though I've rinsed all the product out, I tried using a clarifying agent but that didn't help much. What is the waxy coating on a pear?
Q. What is the waxy coating on a pear? Is it natural or does it come from pesticides?
Asked by c.H. - Sun Apr 1 19:49:11 2007 - Botany - 5 Answers - Comments
A. There are natural waxes that occur on the surface of fruits (leaves and stems as well). Additional waxes (glazing agents) are often applied to improve the appearance, shelf appeal, and shelf life of the fruit. Pesticides are often found more concentrated at the surface of the fruit because that is what actually hit with the spray, but are not visible due the relatively minute quantity used.

A. Dark brown foul smelling discharge from the ears like you describe is most often a yeast infection, although it sounds like yours is pretty bad and there may also be a secondary bacterial infection from him digging at his ears. I understand not wanting to pay for a vet visit, but this is something that really needs to be treated. Your vet needs to do a cytology to determine what exactly is causing the infection and what medication is appropriate to treat it. Left untreated, severe ear infections can lead to permanent damage to the ears, including deafness. If the ear infection is severe enough, your vet may flush the ears to clean them really well. While you are at the vet, ask them to show you how to clean your dog's ears (you'll have to… [cont.]

Could anyone tell me why my 16 month old daughter's ears always have a waxy build up?
Q. My baby girl's ears always have a waxy build up no matter how much I clean them. She rubs them allot like there maybe an infection but the doctor said this is normal and there is not an infection, and that some babies rub their ears to soothe themselves. What causes this? And how can I fix it?
Asked by PurrrDcat - Tue Sep 28 15:25:18 2010 - Toddler & Preschooler - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Don't worry about it, just clean the wax chunks off when they exit the ear canal and clean the outer ear as normal. Don't use q-tips and stick them down the ear canal as this will push it in and possible plug up the canal, leading to ear infections. Some kids just have waxier ears than others. My son's ears are like this too -- he calls it "wack" and will complain if a bunch is ready to fall out - lol. I will say, however, that any time his wax has turned really dark, compared to an amberish-yellow color, that was when he did have an infection. But, for the most part, it's just normal for some kids to have lots of wax.

A. The safest thing to do would be to use an ice cube to harden the waxy stuff as much as possible. Then you may be able to get the stain out with a mixture of half hydrogen peroxide-half water mixture. Keep it cool to warm to avoid shrinkage. Try the peroxide in an inconspicuous first, please. Best wishes.
