How does a Materials Science and Engineering Ph D get into business world?
Q. Hi, I am a Materials Science and Engineering Ph D student in a prestigious university in US. But I really want to get into business world after Ph.D. I am kinda confused what to do? Can anyone give some suggestions, like what is the baby step to really get started this dream? What is the advantage of materials science and engineering major student to do that? What is the disadvantages? For an engineering background student, what is especially important and challenging for him to interview with a business examiner? Thanks, guys.

A. There are a lot of industries that can use smart people, but most of them would not let you use your Ph D. An MBA might help, but you might want to talk to some adventure capitalists active in your field. (Check who has invested in some of the companies active in your industry). They would be looking for the combination of industry knowledge and business sense.

What materials would I need for a small business in order to accept a payment by phone?...?
Q. I just need to know...If I was a home based business who took sales over the phone and delivered the materials myself, what type of credit card machine would I need to take a payment over the phone? would I JUST need a credit card machine...or is it more complicated then just needing that??

A. Visa or Mastercard would give you a machine like the ones carried by the employees in any Apple Computer Store. You enter the credit info and see if the charge is accepted or declined. You pay 2% of each sale for this privilege. Or you could have money wired to you..

What is the waxy side of wax paper (used to wrap cheese) made of?
Q.

A. Whatever you do, do NOT go to the website mentioned by Orlosky - it is the source of a computer virus. Ordinary wax paper has paraffin wax on it - the same as in common candles.

What do you get back when you claim business materials?
Q. I know you can claim business purchases such as gas and tools...but what do you get back come tax time? Is it 100% of your purchases? My husband just started out on his own and we're making sure we do everything completely legit. I'm just trying to look into the future with everything...
Asked by - Thu Jan 10 12:00:24 2008 - Small Business - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Expenses are only deductible from gross profits which in turn reduces your net profit and your taxable income. You do not receive a refund of those expenses, just as you do not receive refunds of purchases. Gross Sales less COGS(cost of goods sold) = Gross Profit... less Expenses = Net Profit. This is taxable.

A. Freeze it then scrape off as much as possible. take the skirt put then stain over a bowel secure it with a rubber band then pour hot water over stain. The wax will melt through it. follow up by washing as usual.2. on small amount of hardened wax scrape off material See above. or apply generous amount of vegetable oil to harden wax after scraping. wipe off remove excess oil the wash as usual. 3). SCRAP as usual put stain between 2 paper towels. Using iron on low setting place on paper towel. Wax ill melt and be absorbed by towels. Repeat until all wax is gone. wash as usual. be careful not to over heat the material as it could damage it.
